FRIDAY NIGHT NEW YEARS DAY OFF-ROAD RACE RESULTS
There were Seventy-five entries Friday night New Years day for what was being called the “Hangover Nationals”. This was the first scheduled race of the new year and the first time an SCT 4×4 class was run. Greg Campion was the first to win this class, dominating qualifiers and easily winning the A main with his new Slash 4×4.
Fifteen racers showed up to race in the Novice class, and racing was divided up into two heats. Wins went to Danielle Fernandez, Donavan Sonne and Randy Shields in the Qualifiers and Randy Shields went on to win the Novice A Main.
The Slash class had seven entries, but only three managed to complete the A main, with Bill Hammond easily leading the race and going to finish 21 seconds ahead of John Kettles in second place.
Steve Rowley, last year’s SCT points series winner, lead much of the SCT Mod A main, followed closely by Joe Buffalino. Steve and Joe both finished the A main with 12 laps, with the win going to Steve Rowley and Joe Buffalino finishing 5 seconds behind.
The SCT ROAR A main had the closest finish of the night with Mat Armstrong leading the entire race until the last corner on the final lap of the race where Steve Rowley managed to just barely get by Mat to win the race by .035 seconds. This was almost as close a finish as the one last year in the SCT points series where Steve Rowley was beat by Carlos Franco by .01 seconds. TJ Macnish took the win in the Intermediate SCT A main.
The ongoing battle between gas and electric continued in the eighth scale combined class. Shane Stader with a gas Losi 8ight buggy and Karl Rolf with an electric Hot Bodies Ve8 buggy battled it out all night, with the electric buggy proving to be the fastest on this night.
