What would it take for you to race dirt oval?

Details and discussion of the dirt oval classes we run

What would it take for you to race dirt oval?

Postby crashnburn » Mon Dec 29, 2008 1:46 am

I was curious to see what if anything, would create more interest in dirt oval club racing at Camarillo. Is there a particular class that people would be interested in? Is there something about the program that has kept the attendance low? Are there members who've tried it and just don't like it? Are there people who have never tried but think its lame cause you only turn left? Is lack of promotion a factor? Is there still a program?

There Pete, I posted. Nice job on the web site! I like the shameless self promotion of your nicely detailed cars!!! :ugeek:

The dirt oval guys don't use the internet to promote their racing. They don't call their old buddies to come race. They are out there every Saturday to practice but that is as far as it goes. If someone were to promote the races and run a good program I'm sure a few more people would show up. There is a bunch of guys at Hot Rods talking about dirt oval but none come out to Cam to race/practice. James

wierd that jimmy couldnt get that many racers for the onroad...IIC and snowbirds usually have like 400 entries....then again i see that more onroad racers like big races other then big series...i would love a BIG onroad series...maybe when the economy gets better.

I would prefer onroad oval vs dirt oval, only because I am tired of cleaning mud from offroad vehicles. Even so, I like ANY type of racing, and would love to try my hand at dirt oval. Like James said, there is so little info about oval racing @ Cam that it was over shadowed by other events, or not even mentioned. It reminds me of days gone by at the SB track, where the ones in charge did not promote the event. Those running oval, need to talk about it, smack talk to eachother on the forums, make sure dates are posted, and make sure that when there is a race, it starts not only on time, but actually starts instead of a glorified practice session. It would be AWESOME to have oval grow just as offroad did last year. BTW, night series ROCK!!! Get the racing done early in the weekend, so that I have more time to do other things rather than gear up all weekend for just Sunday. :)

Well, dirt oval is in hibernation for a while, but we're about to bust out a paved oval program that I'm sure you'll love. Keep that TC5R exercised by popping in a 17.5 and HPI NASTRUCK body and come turn left!

Oh gosh, I would need to buy another chassis to run paved oval. No way I am going to FUBAR my TC superstock chassis for LTO racing. I cant imagine all the changes I would need to make...lemme get my thinking cap on  :ugeek: Sure would be fun to learn the LTO tuning though..

If your dialed for the road course then your dialed for a tc based oval class...the nastruck class is a way for tc guys to get involved in oval racing with out much change. If your car makes the sweeper fast the your set lol. Most of us will just be running our regular tc's with a nastruck body and our used race tires. It won't take much to be competitive in this class as oval specific gear is saved for the other classes.

Hi to all,

I think the biggest thing with dirt oval is that there are way to many class's.

Keep it to a few and build those class's

Sprint Mod
Sprint Gas
Mini Mod LM

and maybe a few others. Most people think that dirt oval is to easy until they try a sprint car.

Stock Truck is always good too.

Also let me know when you guys Start working on the new oval, I would like to help out hell I may even join as a member. Who Knows

I've got an old RC10GT dying to be put on the dirt oval! For now it will be a truck but converting it to a sprint or a modified is something that could happen in the near future. Hi Bill, looking forward to racing with you and Richie again.
